THE MAKERS

Tania Angeli Handmade

TANIA ANGELI

Tania is the curator behind the Bellingen store The Collective and maker behind the label Handmade.

Handmade aspires to create beautifully unique garments that translate both shelter and breathing skin.

Tania Angeli is as much artisan as designer; she is often found intensely crafting and experimenting with garments in her Bellingen studio. Working in a state of simultaneity, as she weaves layer on layer, manipulating several different pieces each day, the collection grows and transforms. Eventually this artisan gives way to a series that take on their own life -containing in each piece
memory, grain, colour + emotion.

The fingerprint of the Handmade is impregnated in each garment, it is like an art piece, a structural form but perfectly okay to be human in it, to be alive, To be raw, To be open. Hand woven, hand dyed, hand manipulated, carefully handled, heavily handled, its all about the hand.

MEG WILKINSON

MEG WILKINSON

Meg Wilkinson is creator behind the label The Whispering Weaver.

“I am a dedicated fibre artisan and qualified Saori weaving instructor. The act of making is truly my passion, turning a raw material into something functional and beautiful makes my heart sing.

I have been crafting garments for as long as I can remember. My first sewing machine was gifted by Santa at the tender age of 5, and it was then that my obsession for stitching and making began.

I completed a Fine Arts degree majoring in metal smithing and sculpture, lending itself to the sculptural form of my garments today. I am passionate about using raw and sustainable materials like nettle, hemp and linen.

My weaving studio in Bellingen, on the mid-north coast of NSW, is where I teach Saori Weaving classes to groups and individuals. Supporting fellow makers is an important part of The Whispering Weaver project. I am inspired by the creativity of humans and how incredibly clever each one of us is in our own unique way.”
